Nobody bothered to tell me that the last I picture I linked to didn't work, which kinda goes against the entire idea of having a comments-thingy. You bastards!
This time it should work. I've also uploaded a picture of the somewhat alternative toilet conditions in French hotels. This particular toilet belonged to a hotel room I shared with my sister. Notice how only a very thin, and not very airtight, sliding door separates the toilet from the room in which we were supposed to sleep. This was apparently a common ingredient in French hotels. Weird French people... Monday, October 27, 2003
Once again it's Sunday night, and once again I'm feeling very hungover. Last night we had a "tour de chambre" and I'm glad to say a very silly time was had by all. If you need proof I've uploaded a picture. It's from Jan's room which had a "hell" theme, which explains why he's dressed as Satan. I wanted to write a more comprehensive post about the entire thing, but I'm simply not in any shape for that right now. Soon I will go to bed, "not with a bang but with a whimper"...

What's The Frequency John?
My very creative brother and some of his friends have launched a new music weblog, in Danish, called Frekvens. Knowing my my brother the blogaholic, I can pretty much guarantee that it will be very comprehensive, informative and completely elitist. But in the good way! Feel free to spread the word and support this project so Denmark won't have to rely on Boogie TV for music news. In less serious music news, Metal Hammer say Eddie Vedder is lashing out at Creed, Nickelback and Godsmack for ripping off late Layne Staley, which of course is bollocks since everybody knows they're ripping off Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots. Oh, and not a word about Champions League.... Wednesday, October 22, 2003
Elliott Smith died aged 34.
Once again I wasn't a huge fan, but I had a little of his music and thought it was really cool. So if you haven't already, go out and listen to Son Of Sam by Elliott Smith. It is excellent. Tuesday, October 21, 2003
I've been back from my trip to France for a couple of days, but then my internet died due to some sort of maintenance leaving me not only unable to blog, but also completely out of the loop. So now I'm trying to get back in there and figure out if anything has happened while I was gone. Looking at different newspapers and weblogs it doesn't seem as if I've missed a lot. Anders and Kristian for instance seem to have gone into a coma due to the lack of Roy in their everyday life. But now I'm back, and it's a return to regular blogging.
The trip to France was nice, the weather was a great deal better than back in stupid old Denmark. It's a long trip back and forth when you're in a car with your parents, but it was largely problem free, partly becaue of my old trustworthy walkman and cassette tapes fom the 90's, and I also managed to get some reading done for what will hopefully turn out to be a 15-20 page paper on The Island of Doctor Moreau. A real pageturner that will turn out to be. Belgium is by far the most boring country I've ever driven through, Germany and France was a bit better as there are more things to look at. I think by now I've probably seen everything there is to see in Bretagne, or Brittany as I suppose it is called in English, from Carnac in the south over Ponte du Raz in the west (named after the Danish pre-teen rapper) to St Malo in the north. And of course Rennes, which due to it being a university town had plenty of café's, restaurants and bars to keep us entertained, and a lot students who looked like they had stepped right out of the post-grunge era. I stayed in a lot of different hotels, so I also had the chance to see some French tv, including a version of From Hell where Johnny Depp spoke french, very effortless, a lot of music tv, which quite surprisingly featured a lot of Muse and Hawksley Workman who are both huge in France, and some weird French movies with a lot of gratuitous nudity. The last hotel we stayed in was filled with WWII veterans, who apperently had decided to combine visiting old war sites with consuming large quantities of beer. During our dinner at the hotel there was quite a few speeches, a lot of people who shouted "hear hear", and the guy who yelled "A toast to the queen of England". Starngely enough we didn't see any of them come breakfast time... The day after I had come home, my brother gave me a ticket to go see local team AGF get beaten by arch-nemisis Brondby in the pouring rain. It was good fun though, I don't really support any of the teams, but when the two hardest playing sides in the league go head to head on a muddy pitch, you know there'll ge some hard tackling going on. We even managed to see a little bid of football violence afterwards, though it wasn't too serious. The only downside was the idiot standing a couple of rows behind us shouting racist abuse at Brondby keeper Karim Zaza. What a fucking idiot he was. No matter how drunk you are, or how passionate you are about your team that's just stupid. Especially when there was a 10 year old black kid sitting to the left of us in an AGF hat, who looked pretty heartbroken. Apparently I missed some great football when I was away, including Denmark's Euro 2004 qualifier and Arsenal's win against Chelski, but hopefully that will be made up for tonight, when Arsenal beat Kiev and finally get back to their winning ways in Europe. I saw a nice quote about an Englishman's view on Danish football : No gig tonight so my new comedy chums who are very big on Danish telly, oh yes, take me to see the local footy team FC Kobenhavn, of FCK for short. The name is quite apt as they are Fcking awful. They even lost to Rangers a while ago. This game has a penalty saved, a dodgy last minute penalty awarded to the home team to take it into extra time, a sending off, a bit of a punch-up, and is finally decided on sudden death penalties with the home team, lucky Fcking kunst, just scraping home. Boring Eurotrash football. For the full Danish diary of Steve Day go here. Friday, October 10, 2003
That's It, I'm Outta Here...
So today is the day. Having had the traditional departure White Russians and beers yesterday, I am now completely ready to leave this dump of a country. Denmark has been under attack by a nasty case of fall weather lately, so I am more than willing to get into a car and drive to France now. If I get really bored, I may try to find a computer and update the blog, if not, I'll be back around the 18/10. Take care and try to behave. Wednesday, October 08, 2003
Sol Campbell has been given a fine by the FA, which is excellent since it means he won't miss any games. And he will be needed when we miss half a team because of the Old Trafford thing...
Ahnuld won the goo-ba-na-torial race. It was kinda funny when Jesse Ventura won, it was sad when Bush won, I don't exactly know what this is, but it can't be good.
In better news, Kolo has signed a new deal which will keep him at Highbury for 5 years. If he can continue his current form and improve he will definitely be a huge asset to the club. Kolo Toure play, Kolo Toure score. I'm starting to get a bit excited about my trip to France. I'm really looking forward to getting away from this dump, and the crap weather, and just spend a week driving around looking at stuff and visiting a few of those French restaurants Tuesday, October 07, 2003
If you don't like to read my blog in English anymore, a Danish version has been made available thanks to the nice people at Neurotrans.
My computer died today. Completely. I couldn't even turn it on. After checking that everything was in it's right place, shaking my computer around a bit, a little violence never hurt, I decided to open up the machine to have a look, though I had no idea what I was looking at. It turns out that the inside of a computer gets extremely dirty, and it is possible for a spider to live there and make tiny webs. These facts didn't help me a lot though. I asked one of my friends to have a look, but he couldn't see anything wrong either. After a while a girl, yes a girl, who lives here too came in, looked at the computer, pulled the cable out of the socket, put it in the next one, turned the computer on, said: "How do you feel right now?", and left. I said "Very stupid", and started piecing my computer back together. It pretty much the sink story all over again... Monday, October 06, 2003
I Like To Punt On First
I had to make a quick decision tonight. I've been postponing it for a while, so tonight I just figured "go for it" and thus I decided to go to France with my parents this Friday. I wasn't really sure if I wanted to go, there's a high school reunion party this Friday and a bus trip to Germany Saturday with some of my oldest friends, and I actually quite wanted to do those things, but on the other hand, I would be a complete twat if I turned down a free trip to France. I've been to France a couple of times before, and though I can't remember any of the French I actually learned when I was 15, I'm pretty sure it'll be a nice trip. There's always a lot of things to see, and as Eddie Izzard said this is "Europe - where history comes from". And it will be cool to visit my sister who works in Rennes. I haven't done a lot of travelling, apart from one trip to the tourist dump that is Lanzarote, a snowboard trip to Sweden and a high school trip to Spain, I haven't been anywhere since I was in Paris in '95, so I'm looking forward to saying "hi" to my friends and dissappearing into the sunset on the backseat of my dad's car, leaving all my troubles, worries and woes behind for a week. When you reach my age, I think people expect you to travel alone, with friends, spouses rather than with your parents, but I have decided not to think too much about that. I'm sure it will turn out to be a nice experience, but it probably won't hurt to bring a book. And a walkman. And my cellphone. I hate Sunday nights, I'm almost always a bit busted from the weekend, yet I'm never able to sleep, so I end up watching bad tv. I'm not really interested in football (American), but I often end up watching it, at least 'till Jon Stewart goes on at 00.30 am, and then I have to wait 'till 03.00 before Futurama starts, which means I will go to sleep around 03.30 and be completely busted tomorrow. I can't decide if it's a bad end or beginning to the week.... By the way, it's embarresing to spell school the wrong way. And my counter reached 4000 hits, which really shouldn't matter to me, but for some reason I always get a bit excited when I see that people have been here. Even if they are all looking for porn... I've just finished moving. I only moved across the hall so my window now faces the beautiful university park instead of one of the most heavily trafficated roads in Aarhus. It took a couple of days because the people who lived here before had completely trashed the dump, so I had to play handyman, fix holes in the wall and paint it before it was remotely inhabitable. It still looks really trashed, the floor is covered in paint, and the window is still somewhat covered by that weird plant that grows on the outside wall, but it's worth it, because now I don't have to listen to all the traffic everytime I open the window. And my old room was also pretty trashed to begin with. But now my internet is up and running again, and I'm about ready to return to normal life.
Yesterday, while waiting for my net to be turned on, I went downtown to pick up the new Muse album. It turned out that the new Deftones album was pretty cheap, so I bought both, even though I can't really afford it. Anders asks if the new Muse album is any good, and I have to say it is. It is any good. If any other band had made it, it would probably be one of the albums of the year, but compared to Origin of Symmetry it's a bit dissapointing. There isn't as many of the crazy rock tracks like Plug In Baby and Hypermusic, and overall it's a bit mellow, but it's still very good indeed. And they're still as over the top, pretentious and artsy as ever, and probably the only band in the world who can get away with writing a rock song called Thoughts Of A Dying Atheist, which by the way is an excellent song. The new Deftones album is about as weird as they get, which is no surprise following White Pony which I didn't really understand for the first year or so, but went on to be one of my favorite albums. I went to see The Scottish Play with John and my dad the other day which was okay. I don't go to the theater very often, so it was a nice change of pace, but it's weird to see Shakespeare translated into Danish and performed by a guy who was once Prince Valentin on a Danish children's show Arsenal continue to suck their way through Europe, playing the most boring game since facing Ajax in the Champions League last year. Luckily Man U lost to some second rate German team, but for some reason we don't hear the English press going on about crisis in Manchester in the same way as when Arsenal lost to Inter Milan, who actually reached the semi-finals last year. Go figure....
